Description

Something for you Petters out there, with a history lesson.

By now, The Hub premiered "Littlest Pet Shop", which was based on the toyline that was around in 1992 (there was a LPS show back in 1995, which lasted for 2 seasons.) One of the main characters is Blythe Baxter, who is voiced by Ashleigh Ball, who voiced both Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Blythe has a interesting history herself:

Back in the 1970's, Kenner Toys produced Blythe, a doll with interesting features like a pull string to move her eyes, and changing expressions. The doll came out in 1972, but production stopped in 1973, as the dolls were not popular due to the eyes and such. Two decades later, Hasbro purchased Tonka Toys, who purchased Kenner in the 1980's. Blythe was long forgotten until 1999, where a Japanese designer brought her back from obscurity, and a year later, used by a Japanese department store as part of their promotion campaign. In 2001, Blythe was back in production, this time as a toy marketed towards the adult collector, in Japan.

The Japanese version of Blythe sold like hotcakes, and the dolls became customizable since the revival, giving collectors the chance to customize clothes, hair, and accessories for their dolls. As for the US, Hasbro (who has since owned the Blythe property) licensed the doll to the Ashton-Drake Galleries to create Blythe dolls in 2004 geared to the adult collector marker. During the same year, Blythe was brought back to life by Hasbro to add her to the Littlest Pet Shop toyline (in which Kenner made in 1992 after being purchased by Hasbro), where she is being bought by girls and collectors to this day. In 2010, "Blythe Loves Littlest Pet Shop" was released, 10 years after the Japanese revived her from the dead. Fast forward to today, as Blythe is now in the same league as the Mane 6, with her own show based on a toyline, and being voiced by one of the Mane 6.

Here in this pic, Blythe rose from her grave after a voice commanded her to rise from the dead. Blythe then begins to act like a zombie, but realizing that she's not even a zombie, but a revived doll! The voice commanding her to rise is indeed Hasbro.

This is my first time drawing LPS style, and the drawing was influenced by the doll's history, and the song "Tonight, We Make Love 'Til We Die" from the 1985 film, "The Return of The Living Dead." Blythe came out good, although I had to redraw her. I was gonna add more gravestones for other discontinued Hasbro toys, but it was scrapped.

Enjoy, Petters! PS-This is not an insulting pic, but a humorous pic to make reference to Blythe's 41 years.

I actually like the reference (as strange as is might seem) to the actual Blythe dolls.

In real life, those dolls creep the shit out of me, but I still like the little throw in reference they have in lps.
